Victoria Tourism Bulletins

Building on Success is a tourism theme about which we’ve been hearing quite a bit lately and was certainly reflected in this year’s very successful Tourism Industry Conference which was recently held at the Victoria Conference Centre and attracted hundreds of delegates from around the Province. The theme of building on success is also reflected in January’s tourism indicators for Victoria which show that 2017 is off to an even stronger start than 2016.

Year-end tourism indicators confirm what we’ve been expecting; 2016 was a terrific year for tourism in Greater Victoria. The accommodation sector realized a 4.0 percentage point increase in average annual occupancy over 2015 which, coupled with an annual ARR that was close to $12 higher than last year, resulted in an almost $15 increase in annual RevPAR. With 145,000+ (8.5%) more passengers making use of the airport in 2016, and almost 249,000 (+4.2%) more passengers making use of BC Ferries Route 1, many more people were on the move in 2016 than in 2015.
