Nanaimo Tourism Bulletins

November 2018 marks the first month of hotel stats reported without the Howard Johnson. With the closure of this property, Nanaimo has lost 100 rooms from its hotel inventory. The resulting increase in occupancy and rate are the “new normal” for the City and provide further evidence that Nanaimo is ready to support additional hotel room inventory.

Tourism has been growing substantially in Nanaimo over the past year and with hotel occupancy at 75.5%, it’s time to build new hotels! The new mayor and council have the opportunity to support the achievement of great things as Nanaimo has incredible potential to grow and build its tourism sector.

Hotel room rate and occupancy are holding steady for Nanaimo. Airport and BC Ferries remain strong. At some point very soon, Nanaimo will need new hotels to accommodate increased tourism growth.
