The travel impact of Spring Break and an early Easter is reflected in Nanaimo’s March transportation indicators which show a large increase relative to last year. However, modest growth in the March occupancy rate suggests that the increases in transportation numbers may be attributable to more residents traveling elsewhere rather than more visitors traveling to Nanaimo.

Nanaimo’s February tourism indicators showed solid year-over-year increases. In addition to significant growth in ferry and airport numbers (which are partially attributable to the extra day in February), the accommodation sector saw a 6.5% occupancy increase and strong RevPAR growth.Access to B.C.

January has opened 2016 with some positive hotel occupancy results over 2015. The strength of the US dollar continues to attract US visitors and keep Canadians closer to home. BC Ferries results continue to be strong.
