Victoria Tourism Bulletins

All January tourism indicators improved compared to the same month last year which is a great way to start 2018. Of note is the increase in conference centre delegate days. With Tourism Victoria now managing conference centre marketing activities and numerous events booked for this year, we anticipate this sector will perform well in 2018. Also of note is that the January performance of the accommodation sector has improved for the fifth year in a row – with a modest year-over-year increase in occupancy and notable increases in ADR and RevPAR.

We’re pleased to report another year of largely positive growth for Victoria’s tourism industry. Although the 2017 year-over-year occupancy rate dropped marginally (-0.8%), the accommodation sector experienced an $9.64 increase in ADR and a RevPAR rate of $124 (almost $6 higher than last year and notably higher than the projected national RevPAR rate of $99). All transportation and conference centre indicators were up between approximately 2% and 4% compared to 2016. The industry is optimistic that 2018 will be another good year.
