The impact of Spring Break and an early Easter are reflected in Victoria’s March tourism indicators. A combination of a strong occupancy rate and a higher ADR resulted in a notable increase in RevPAR compared to March of last year. March also marks the end of the first quarter of 2016. With the exception of the conference centre, year-to-date numbers for this period are very strong.

For a month that is often viewed as the best time of the year for Canadians to escape somewhere warm and sunny, the performance of Victoria’s tourism sector in February made a big ‘leap’ relative to last year with occupancy up almost 4% and RevPAR up almost $11. As long as oil prices and the value of the Canadian dollar remain low, Victoria’s tourism industry will reap the benefits.

The tourism industry in Victoria is abuzz with activity as a result of 2015’s record setting performance. We are seeing significant investment, upgrades and expansion at many of the City’s accommodation properties and attractions including the Fairmont Empress, Hotel Grand Pacific, Victoria Regent Hotel and the Belleville Terminal.
